The FLOR 2026 Community Showcase & Season Finale
Flamenco’s ROOTS are the diverse artistic and cultural influences that graced Andalusian SOIL over many centuries, including the influences of Iberians, Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Sephardic Jews, Visigoths, Moors, Roma, Latin-Americans, and West-Africans.
It grew out of an ENVIRONMENT of oppression and solidarity among marginalized groups in the region.
It BLOOMED thanks to the work of flamenco’s artists to create and develop flamenco styles as an expression of these influences and experiences, leading to over 50 styles within 5 stylistic groups: Soleá, Seguiriya, Tango, Fandango, and Folkloric.
Today’s flamenco artists and contemporary developments are the SEEDS that both honor tradition and flex its boundaries.
Through diversified offerings, FLOR strives to highlight these origins, expressions and developments for a thorough understanding of flamenco.

“SOMOS LOS QUE ESTAMOS”
by Brian J Evans
It’s amazing to me…
How we keep loving this country, and this country doesn’t love us back.
And I have a hard time imagining it’s just because we’re black, or queer, or trans, an immigrant, poor, or a woman…
No, I think it goes much deeper than that.
Because despite all of its efforts, we are still here.
Not merely shackled to a meager existence
Persistence will win the day.
We live and love with the best of them.
We laugh and cry out songs to the heavens as though the stars shine just for us.
Trust is something we weave out of despair as time-honored and cherished and an elder rocking away in their favorite chair watching every scar dance across this land.
We stand.
We get up.
We face absolute horror like it’s another Tuesday ridin’ the bus—it’s us—the very testament of life despite their hollow fury.
We Are JOY.
Radiance personified!
Ebullient is our destiny!
High definition in full spectrum fidelity
And this is what they covet so, so grow.
Do not ever be bound by ground. We are children of the ether, combustible as storms on every horizon, and if you look, you’ll find us in you, celebrating your arrival.
Because the truth is, our stories are far better than anything they could come up with.
So, live your story, dance your story, embody your story, and I’ll be right there beside you.
Because I love you, and I hope, at least for now, that can be enough.
