Flamenco Classes
Flamenco Dance Classes
FLOR offers Flamenco dance classes for all levels and abilities, from total beginners to advanced dancers, for ages 12 and older.
Classes provide a comprehensive introduction to the art of flamenco by integrating dance technique, choreography, history, geography, culture, language, music, and the stylistic structures that define each palo (flamenco style). Students develop strong technical foundations while gaining a deeper understanding of the cultural traditions and artistic context that give flamenco its unique expressive power.
During the 2026-2027 season, each level will focus on a primary palo:
Total Beginner: Tangos de Málaga
Intermediate: Alegrías
Advanced-Intermediate: Soleá
Advanced: Tarantos with mantón (shawl)
In addition to their primary palo, all classes will study Sevillanas, one of Spain's most beloved spring social dances.
Live flamenco guitar and/or cante (singing) accompaniment will be incorporated into each class approximately once per month.
Registration Closes September 7th

Flamenco Guitar Classes
Introduction to Flamenco Guitar
An introduction to the art of flamenco guitar, open to players of every level. Flamenco is built on a handful of core techniques: rasgueado, picado, arpeggio, and the driving rhythmic feel called compás. This group class is accessible to both newer players and those with prior experience. We will get grounded in posture, tone, and the basic right-hand strokes, while deepening our command on the instrument and expanding our repertoire. Alongside the playing, we'll cover the theory behind the music and the history and culture that shaped flamenco and the guitar's place within it.
Students should bring their own guitar. A nylon-string classical or flamenco guitar is ideal, but come as you are and we'll sort out the rest. Led by Bruno Panunzio, classical and flamenco guitarist and Artist Faculty in Guitar at the University of Southern Maine.
Registration Closes September 7th
